Reading games by genre
Genre describes what you actually do. Action asks for precise input and fast reactions, puzzle for logical solutions inside fixed rules, strategy for resource allocation and long-range planning. RPGs offer progression and story; simulations let you run a system and watch it react. The same subject matter becomes a completely different experience under a different genre grammar, so widening your taste works better by changing genre than by changing theme.
- Action: input precision and reaction speed
- Puzzle: finding solutions within fixed rules
- Strategy: resource allocation and long-range planning
